Hatteras Fishing Report

Friday, May 23 2014

We had a 1/2 day Cobia trip today.  There was some pretty good action yesterday evening to the south so I decided to head that way in hopes of finding some.  The coniditions weren't ideal but were plenty good enough to find them.  We foumd one that we were able to make a couple casts to but he just wouldn't eat.  He followed the jig two or three times but never tried it.  We rode all over the ocean and saw plenty of turtles and sharks but no more cobia.  The boats that had full day cobia trips finally found some fish up above avon but it was out of our range for a 1/2 day.  Pretty day on the water none the less.

Hatteras Fishing Report 5/18

Full day Cobia trip today.  Beautiful slick calm coniditons and once we found some fish they were chewing.  We wound up almost off salvo but it was well worth it.  We caught our limit and saw and released several more.  Nothing huge but a really pretty class of fish.  A great day on the water!

Hatteras Fishing Report 5/17

The wind was howling at daylite this morning so we decided to radio fish for a bit to see just how rough it was offshore.  It didn't sound that bad so we charged out the inlet aorund 8:30.  Luckily we found some conditions of scattered grass not too far offshore that was holding some gaffers Dolphin.  We picked at them all day and wound up with a pretty good catch for such a late start.  It wasn't nearly as rough as it normally is when its blowing 25 NW so I feel like we got really lucky to get the trip in today.

Winter Fishing

We haven't posted much on the website this winter but its not cause we weren't catching anything.  We had a great commercial king mackerel season and a pretty good bluefin season with a few blackfin jigging charters in between.  Here are some of the pics from this winter.

Back at it again today fishing was pretty good for us again today.  They didn't bite the regular trolling stuff so we switched over and went live bait fishing.  It was none stop action until we ran out of bait.  We were close enough to the beach so we ran in and caught more bait and came back out for the afternoon bite.  We quickly went through our bait again and caught a few fish trolling right before dark.  A friend of mine dropped all his oil right at sundown so we had a long night towing him back to the inlet.  It's been a great week so far looks like we should get one more day in before the weather sets in for a while.

Commercial Fishing Today and the kings have shown up pretty good.  I went by myself yesterday to scout it out.  Well I didn't do much scouting cause the fish are here and lots of really big fish.  I was kicking myself for not having a mate but it worked out ok anyway.  I had several fish that have been over 40lbs gutted.  Today we didn't have as good of fishing but we still ended up with a pretty good catch.  Conditions look to be good for the rest of the week so hopefully the fish will stick around.

Fishing was a little scrappy for us today.  It started off great catching our first two wahoo bites but it quickly tapered off.  We went a long time before we had another bite and that was just an false albacore.  With the conditions being a little choppy we decided to call it a day early in order for my group to catch the Clemson football this afternoon.  There was a scattered wahoo bite throughout the fleet.  A couple boats hit the Yellowfin Tuna out in the mega deep.  Overall the fishing was kind of slow for everyone.  I will be commercial fishing starting next week so hopefully the kings have shown up.

Today it was a little windy offshore so we decided to stay relatively close and look for a king mackerel until the wind died out.  We thought we were in the meat when the first bait in the water was skyed on by a giant 45lbs King Mackerel.   We caught him and had a few other bites in that area but didn't manage to hold on to any more.  We proceeded to look far a wide for some more bites and found some great looking condidtions but only managed to catch one other king and a few alberts.  The wind didn't fall out until late so we never made it offshore but for the sound of the few boats that did the fishing wasn't much better out there.  My group had a great time inspite of the slow fishing.

Great day on the water today with Gary and Beth from Williamsport, PA.  I decided to run way south looking for some wahoo but I over ran the best of the wahoo fishing.  We did manage to find a nice catch of dolphins and a few yellowfin tuna to the south.  We worked back up the beach and wound up with 5 nice wahoo including 2 citations.  Beautiful weather made this day about as good as you could asked for.  The fishing is red hot and the long range forecast looks great for next week.  I still have a few open days so if you want to go fishing give us a call.

Great day on the water today.  Slick calm conditions and a few fish around.  We started out inside the break looking for a wahoo.  We had a couple bites but couldn't hang on to anything.  I decided to work offshore a little deeper and we found the birds on some yellowfins.  We got covered up a couple times and managed to hang on to a few.  Just had a few ladies on the boat today so it was a bit hectic at times.  In the middle of all that action we caught a couple sailfish and a few dolphin.
